In our saloon’s very colorful past, the ‘wildlife’ used to be the dancing girls, cattle rustlers, and gunslingers. These days, our high desert valley offers extraordinary bird-watching, wildlife photography, hiking, biking, world-class stargazing, forests, sagebrush and juniper, alkaline lakes, geological wonders to explore, and sunsets painted with colors you’ve probably never seen before.

History

This valley has seen a lot of history, first as the native homelands of the Northern Paiute tribe since time immemorial, then emigrants rolling through the valley in 1846, the California Gold Rush, as a peaceful if rugged haven for folks sidestepping the Civil War, to playing an unhappy role in the ‘Last Massacre’ of 1911. We look forward to earning our place in the next chapter.
